Join H.W. Brands, one of America’s most renowned historians, for an evening exploring the fierce debate over U.S. entry into World War II through the lens of two towering figures: President Franklin D. Roosevelt and aviator Charles Lindbergh. Drawing from his latest book, America First – Roosevelt vs. Lindbergh in the Shadow of War, Brands will delve into this pivotal moment in history, offering insights into how these debates shaped America’s role on the global stage and continue to echo today.

H.W. Brands, the author of 30 books—including two Pulitzer Prize finalists—is the Jack S. Blanton Sr. Chair in History at the University of Texas at Austin and a frequent guest on national media. His visit is part of the Alaska Historical Society’s Critical Issues Lecture Series and is co-hosted by the Alaska Historical Society and the Atwood Foundation.
